Having small shank diameters relative to their boring diameters, spade bits shanks often have flats to prevent slipping in drill chucks. They are intended for use with electric hand drills. The Spade Bit is used when the installer needs to cut fast clean holes. It has two cutting spurs which scribe the hole to reduce "Break-out". It is commonly used by carpenters, electricians and plumbers.
